Czech Republic filmfest honors ‘AniMal’

The 59th edition of Brno 16 Film Festival in Czech Republic has granted its main award to the Iranian short film ‘AniMal’.

Co-directed by Bahman and Bahram Ark, ‘AniMal’ represented Iran at the Czech Republic film event and succeeded to grab the main award of the festival.

Since Brno 16 Film Festival is one of the oldest film events in Europe, its award is so valuable and the Iranian short film grabbed the main award of the event.

The flick has so far gained several awards and nominations from prestigious international festivals, including the second prize of 2017 Cinéfondation Festival de Cannes.

Some other awards for the film include Best Director award of the Rio de Janeiro International Short Film Festival and an award for most innovative short film from the 23rd MedFilm Festival in Italy.

‘AniMal’ tells the story of a man who wants to cross over the border illegally. To gain what he wishes for, he hunts a ram and decides to escape disguised as the animal.

As the oldest local international festival, Brno 16 is a four-day international competition of selected short non-commercial live-action fiction films.

The 59th edition of the festival was held on October 10-13, 2018.
